The very heavy rain yesterday led to a number of incidents of flooding in the Dublin area last night and Dublin Fire Brigade control said several units were mobilised to deal with the incidents.
The worst-affected areas were in the Whitehall Road area of Kimmage; Balglass Road, Main Street, and Harbour Road, Howth, and the Newcastle area. Gardai closed a number of roads and diverted traffic.
In Kimmage, the River Poddle broke through a culvert and flood water entered a number of houses despite the efforts of residents to keep it at bay.
A number of cars were damaged at Balglass Road, Howth, when water rushing down the steep street caused a rubbish skip to float and collide with the parked vehicles.
About a foot of water was reported in the vicinity of the DART station at Harbour Road but train services were not disrupted.
