Fianna Fáil TD Ms Beverley Flynn has said she has no intention of stepping down from Mayo County Council ahead of next June's local elections.

Ms Flynn said that she intends to stay on for her full term as a county councillor because she was elected to Mayo County Council for a five-year term.

The TD added: "I have always made my position very, very clear when the whole issue of the dual mandate came up in the first place that I would certainly be remaining on the council until June and my position has not changed."

Ms Flynn went on to say that there was "not as much as a hint, a talk, an informal chat on the corridor, not a phone call, absolutely nothing" said about her position as an Oireachtas member and a councillor.
