Football ground damaged in petrol bomb attack

An Irish League football club's ground was badly damaged in an overnight petrol bomb attack

An Irish League football club's ground was badly damaged in an overnight petrol bomb attack.   A bar under one of the stands at Mourneview Park, home of Glenavon FC, was gutted in the blaze.

Five fire crews were called to the scene after smoke was spotted billowing from the ground near Lisburn, Co Armagh, just before 6.30am.  Brigade chiefs revealed the remains of a petrol bomb were discovered close to a stand at the ground, which has been attacked several times in the past by
arsonists.

Although no one was injured, Divisional Officer Walter Johnstone said: "The bar itself is totally gutted and there is smoke damage to the rest of the bars that are underneath the stand."
