Former bishop of Connor Bishop James Moore was praised for his contribution to the community during his funeral service yesterday in Belfast.

Bishop Moore "walked humbly, attentively and faithfully with his Lord all his days. That example is part of his generous legacy to us whether we called him husband, parent, friend or father in God," said Right Rev Alan Harper, Church of Ireland Bishop of Connor, yesterday. He was speaking in St Anne's Cathedral, Belfast.

Bishop Moore (71), died at Bangor hospital, in Co Down last Wednesday. He retired as bishop of Connor in 2001. Born in Bray, Co Wicklow in May 1933 he attended the Aravon School, Bray and Portora Royal School, Enniskillen before entering Trinity College Dublin.

"Nothing that I shall say from this pulpit will be able adequately to reflect the deep love, admiration and respect with which he was held in this place, in this diocese, in our sister diocese of Down and Dromore, and across the Church of Ireland," said Bishop Harper yesterday.
