A former world champion boxer, Dave McCauley was fined €600 at Letterkenny District Court today after being convicted of passing forged notes.

Hotelier David McCauley with an address at The Woods, Larne, Co Antrim was charged with proffering two £20 sterling notes which he knew to be counterfeit at Bar Mono on Lower Main Street, Letterkenny, Co Donegal on Sunday May 30th.

A second charge of being in possession of counterfeit notes was withdrawn.

In reply to the charges of possession of forged sterling notes, McCauley replied: "Not guilty." In response to passing two forged sterling notes at Bar Mono, McCauley replied: "The charge is not
true. I did not know the notes were counterfeit."
