Former FF TD dies at age of 82

MR LIONEL BOOTH, who served as a Fianna Fail TD for Dun Laoghaire from 1957 to 1969, has died aged 82.

MR LIONEL BOOTH, who served as a Fianna Fail TD for Dun Laoghaire from 1957 to 1969, has died aged 82.

One of Ireland's best known businessmen, he was appointed managing director of the Brittain Group Ltd in 1970.

Born in 1914, he was educated in Wesley College, Dublin, the Leys School, Cambridge and studied law in Trinity College Dublin.

He qualified as a solicitor in 1938 and served as a captain in the Army during the Emergency.

He became joint managing director of Booth Poole & Co Ltd in 1956 and became a member of Dublin County Council and Dun Laoghaire Corporation in 1955, serving on both bodies until 1958.

In 1957 he was elected to the Dail for Dun Laoghaire/ Rathdown and served until 1969.

Mr Booth, who died on Sunday, is survived by his wife Muriel and three children, Valerie, David and Richard.

A Thanksgiving Service will be held in Christ Church, Leeson Park at 6 p.m. on June 13th.
