A former garda accused of corruption and unlawful possession of firearms was served with a book of evidence yesterday.

Mr John C. O'Neill (32), of Kingswood Heights, Tallaght, is also accused of perverting the course of justice and destroying three court warrants between November 1995 and October 1996.

He is charged with receiving £16,100 between 1995 and 1996 in amounts ranging from £100 to £5,000 from Mr Anthony Long, Mr Derek O'Driscoll and Mr Patrick Ward. He is also accused of possessing three shotguns and a handgun on October 17th last.

Defence solicitor Mr Dara Robinson requested a four-week remand for submissions on the book, and Mr O'Neill was remanded on continuing bail of £10,000 to appear again before Dublin District Court on October 13th.
