Former Intel chief executive Dr Craig Barrett has been appointed chairman of the Silicon Valley-based Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG).
The appointment was welcomed by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Michéal Martin and Irish American business leaders at a lunch in Dr Barrett’s hounour at the Stanford University Faculty Club.
Established in 2007, the ITLG is a non-profit independent organization comprising a number of high-level technology leaders in Silicon Valley who are Irish or Irish-American.
Members of the ITLG include John Hartnett, chief executive of G24i, Inc. John Gilmore, CEO of Sling Media, Conrad Burke, president and chief executive of Innovalight, Rory McInerney, vice president, Intel and Barry O’Sullivan, senior vice president at Cisco.
Dr. Barrett has previously been honoured by the ITLG for his commitment over a to technology innovation in Ireland.
Commenting on his appointment, Craig Barrett said “Ireland’s success in the 21st Century depends on its ability to invest in education and research and development and then provide the right environment to promote investment in innovation," he said.
"The ITLG exists to bring the experience and expertise of Silicon Valley to Ireland in making these investments. I look forward to working with the ITLG, with industry, and with governments north and south in Ireland to create an environment for success,” he added.
