Former Ireland under-21 denies rape

Arsenal keeper and former Ireland under-21 Graham Stack appeared in court today to deny raping a woman at his home.

Stack (23) glanced at the public gallery and said firmly "not guilty" as the charge was put at Croydon Crown Court in south London.

Stack, who is on loan at Millwall until the end of the season, also denied sexually assaulting the 21-year-old in Beckenham, south east London, on September 1st last year.

A second man, 23-year-old Allan Smillie, an operations manager from Feltham in west London, pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual assault on the same woman.

Dressed in suits and ties, both defendants sat grim-faced as Judge Cedric Joseph granted them conditional bail ahead of the trial on September 19th.

Republic of Ireland under-21 international Stack played a number of Carling Cup matches for Arsenal last season.
