Former 'Irish Times' finance editor dies

Jim Dunne, a former business and finance editor of The Irish Times , has died suddenly aged 65.

Jim Dunne, a former business and finance editor of The Irish Times, has died suddenly aged 65.

Mr Dunne, a native of Tipperary town, joined The Irish Times in 1987 and worked in the newspaper until his retirement in 2002.

He was a regular contributor to the letters page of the newspaper after his retirement.

He had previously been editor of Business and Finance magazine and a tourism correspondent with the Irish Press.

A graduate of University College Galway, he was a keen linguist who translated a number of French texts into English. He worked in tourism promotion in the Western Tourism Board before entering journalism.

He is survived by his brother John, his sister Dorothy, step-mother Maureen Dunne and a nephew.

Mr Dunne's funeral service will take place at the Mount Jerome crematorium in Harold's Cross at 1pm on Friday.
