Former chief executive of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) Mr Cian O'Tighearnaigh has been charged with 41 new fraud charges.

These are in addition to a charge made against him in December 2001, when he was accused of carrying on business for a fraudulent purpose, contrary to the Companies Act, while head of the ISPCC in December 1998.

The Dublin District Court heard today that the extra charges related to failure to keep proper records, falsification of accounts and fraudulent conversion of sums.

Det Garda Francis McGroder of the Bureau of Fraud Investigation told the court that, when charged, Mr O'Tighearnaigh (43) replied not guilty to all the charges.

He was remanded on bail to appear on February 5th.
