Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has paid tribute to the late Peadar Maher, who was a TD for Laois-Offaly from 1951 to 1961.
Mr Maher died last week just before his 88th birthday.
“I was very saddened to hear of the death of Peadar Maher,” Mr Martin said. “Peadar served the party with great distinction in the Laois-Offaly constituency . . . I know Peadar was held in very high regard within the party and within his community.”
Born on February 1st, 1924, Mr Maher was involved in the family business in Abbeyleix. He died on January 31st. He is survived by his sister Nuala, daughter Deirdre, sons Peter and Tom and their extended families.
