The former Prime Minister of Malta, Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, appealed for a No vote at an anti-Nice Treaty meeting in Dublin yesterday.
Dr Bonnici, who was present as a guest of the No to Nice Campaign, said the treaty changed completely the original concept of the organisation.
"It makes the EU an organisation of unequal countries, with more weight being given to the bigger countries at the expense of the smaller ones," he added.
Dr Bonnici, the Labour prime minister of Malta from 1984 to 1987, is retired from politics.

He said that he would be advocating a No vote when Malta held a referendum next March on whether to join the EU.
