Bucharest - Former communist defence and interior ministers are to be tried for ordering the bloody repression of the 1989 uprising that led to the fall of the Romanian communist regime, judicial officials said yesterday.
Gen Victor Stanculescu and Gen Mihai Chitac are accused of ordering security forces to open fire on demonstrators in the western town of Timisoara.
