A former member of the RIR admitted at the weekend that he was responsible for the hoax bomb alert in Markethill, Co Armagh, on Saturday. The 21-year-old man, from Markethill, admitted making what the RUC described as an "elaborate device" which he attached to his car. He also admitted making a telephone call to the police saying there was a bomb under his car. The man, who is understood to have been drunk at the time, was not charged with any offence.

An RUC spokeswoman said yesterday: "A 21-year-old man has been questioned by police concerning the incident. He was released pending a report to the Director of Public Prosecutions."
