The decision of the Minister for Justice to release a former soldier jailed for killing of three colleagues in South Lebanon, has been sharply criticised by PDFORRA, the representative. body for rank and file members of the Defence Forces.

A strongly worded letter expressing concern at the granting of day release to Michael McAleavy has been sent to the Mrs Owen and the Minister for Defence, Mr Barrett.

It has been submitted on behalf of the families of Cpl Greg Morrow, Private Peter Burke and Private Thomas Murphy, who were shot dead by their colleague while serving with UNIFIL in Tibnin in 1982.
