A WITNESS who claimed to identify Mr Stephen Larkin as the would be assassin of loyalist paramilitary leader Johnny Adair admitted yesterday to being a former UDA commander.
The man, known only as Witness Four, was being cross examined at Belfast Crown Court by lawyers for Mr Larkin, from Jamaica Road, Ardoyne, Belfast, who denies the attempted murder of Adair and another man on March 6th 1993.
Witness Four said that he had seen a Vauxhall car, which the prosecution claims was the gunmen's getaway car, in the Shankill area. He heard shooting and saw two men, one with a handgun, the other with a rifle, get into the Vauxhall and driving off.
He claimed the man with the rifle was Mr Larkin. He said that later he was able to pick Mr Larkin out of a police line up. The trial continues today.
