Gardaí last night ruled out foul play after what was initially treated as the suspicious death of a middle-aged man in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.
The man's body was discovered by a relative at seven o'clock on Wednesday evening in a house on the Cherrymount estate, where he lived alone.
The unmarried man - named locally as Mr Gus Moore - was aged 49.
The deputy state pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, travelled to Clonmel yesterday to conduct a post-mortem examination while the man's house was technically examined by gardaí in a bid to establish how and when he died.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed last night that the preliminary post-mortem results indicated that Mr Moore died as a result of head injuries consistent with a fall.
While an investigation was ongoing, the spokesperson said the death was no longer regarded as suspicious.
