A LIMERICK student seriously injured after he jumped into a fountain while out celebrating the end of exams has been transferred to the Mater hospital in Dublin.
Cian Cleary (22), Kildysart, Co Clare, suffered serious neck injuries when he and a group of friends jumped into a fountain at the University of Limerick early last Wednesday morning.
A final year business student, he had been out celebrating the end of his exams at the time. Mr Cleary was returning from a party with friends just before 5am when they decided to jump into the shallow fountain in front of the Schuman building on the UL campus.
He was originally admitted to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick in a critical condition. His condition was later described by a HSE spokesperson as “critical but stable”.
The University of Limerick has offered counselling services to the family and friends of the student.
