Three men appeared before Limerick District Court today charged with the murder of nightclub doorman Brian Fitzgerald, who was shot in the city four years ago.
Gary Campion (23) with an address at 102 Pineview Gardens, Moyross; Dessie Dundon (22) with an address at 80 Hyde Road, Ballinacurra Weston; and his brother, John Dundon, (26) of the same address; appeared before Judge Tom O'Donnell today.
There was a large armed security presence at the court as gardaí patrolled the surrounding area with machine guns.
Gardaí told Judge O'Donnell that when charged with the murder yesterday Gary Campion replied: "Nothing to say", while the Dundon brothers remained silent.
Judge O'Donnell told the defendants that because the case was a murder trial any bail applications would have to be made through the High Court.
A fourth man, Anthony Kelly, with an address at Cragg House, Kilrush, Co Clare, is already in custody charged with the same murder.
The businessman (49) also appeared before yesterday's court sitting where he was served with the book of evidence and sent forward for trial.
The court heard that a bail application had already been refused in the High Court. However, solicitor for Mr Kelly told the court that a fresh bail application is currently before the Supreme Court.
Mr Fitzgerald was shot dead outside his Corbally home as he returned from work in Doc's nightclub in Limerick city on November 29th, 2002. His death led to one of the biggest ever murder investigations in the history of the Limerick Garda division.
One man, James Martin Cahill from Birmingham, Britain, is serving a life sentence for his role in the murder.
