Widespread overnight rain will clear tomorrow as brighter fresher weather with sunshine and showers spreads eastwards across the country. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be quite warm with sunny spells.

There will be a good deal of dry weather, but showers will develop each day, some heavy during the afternoons and evenings.

The week ahead for holiday destinations

Eastern Mediterranean (Greece and islands; west and south coast of Turkey; Cyprus): Mostly dry and sunny with a risk of isolated thunderstorms. Hot, with highest temperatures between 28C and 35 C.

Western Mediterranean (Italy and Mediterranean coasts of France and Spain): A good deal of very warm sunny weather, but thundery rain or showers will spread eastwards during the week. Highest temperatures 25C to 33 C.

Atlantic coasts of France, Spain and Portugal: Apart from some rain in the northwest, mostly dry at first with warm sunshine, but rain may become more widespread for a time in midweek. Highest temperatures 20C to 30C.

Canaries: Mostly dry and sunny. Highest temperatures 26 C to 32C.
