A woman died in a head-on collision at Old Kilcullen at 5 p.m. on Saturday. She was travelling towards Athy when her car collided with another vehicle. The driver of the other car was taken to Naas General Hospital and later transferred to the Blackrock Clinic, where he was said to be stable.

Both people were travelling alone and gardai in Newbridge are appealing for witnesses.

Mr Michael Murphy (78), from Clenaghoo, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, was killed when the tractor he was driving collided with a car near his home at 11.20 p.m. on Saturday.

The driver and passenger of the car were taken to Cavan General Hospital, where they were said to be comfortable.

Mr Daniel White (23), of Summerhill, Nenagh, was killed in an accident at Cudville in the town at 2.15 a.m. on Saturday. He was a passenger in a car which hit a wall.

In Dublin, a motorcycle rider was killed at Ratoath Road in Finglas at 3.40 a.m. yesterday. Mr Kenneth Moore (21), of Cappagh Avenue, Finglas, died after his bike spun off the road.
