Four people were presumed killed today in a violent explosion at the Rafineria Gdanska oil refinery in Gdansk in northern Poland.
"The blast occurred on a barge loaded with 20,000 cubic metres of petrol. Four workers aboard the barge are presumed dead," the spokesman said.
A 30-strong team of firefighters was working to contain the fire and prevent the flames from spreading to three barges moored nearby.
Rafineria Gdanska is Poland's second-largest oil refinery.
