Four people arrested yesterday by gardaí investigating the discovery of a headless torso in Dublin's Royal Canal have been freed without charge.

The decapitated body of Farah Swaleh Noor (38), who was from Somalia but had been living in Ireland since 1996, was found last March by a man walking along the Royal Canal, near Ballybough Road. His arms and legs were found nearby.

Three women and a man were arrested yesterday morning in connection with the death.

A woman (49), from Phibsboro, was arrested in Summerhill and detained at Mountjoy Garda station.

Another woman (22) was arrested in Tallaght and also detained in Mountjoy station. A third woman (30), from Tallaght, was arrested and detained in Store Street. A man (52) from Tallaght was arrested in Terenure and detained in Store Street.

All four are believed to be Irish.

They were freed overnight. A file is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.
