FOUR GARDAÍ have been sent forward for trial before a judge and jury on charges of falsely imprisoning and assaulting a teenager in Dublin last year.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at Basin Street flats in Dublin in the early hours of Sunday, February 17th. Yesterday at Dublin District Court Garda Alan Conlon (27), Garda Claire Delaney (23), Garda Eoin Murtagh (29) and Garda Seán O’Leary (32), all of Kevin Street Garda station, were charged with forcible entry and assault causing harm.

The first three were also charged with forcible imprisonment. Representing the Director of Public Prosecutions, solicitor Kevin Ennis, made no objection to bail for each being set at €300 on their own bond.

Judge Eamon O’Brien warned each upon being charged that if they had an alibi for the event in question, then they must instruct their solicitor within 14 days.

He also ordered that their private addresses not be disclosed and that they stand trial at the next sitting of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Representatives from the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission were present at the brief hearing yesterday.

This was the first major investigation opened by the commission.

After the book of evidence was served to each, they left the court.

None was wearing a Garda uniform.
