Four men have been arrested in Cork by gardaí investigating the activities of the 'Real IRA'.

Four men have been arrested in Cork by gardaí investigating the activities of the 'Real IRA'.

Detectives mounted a series of early morning raids in Cork city and East Cork and arrested four men in their twenties.

Three were arrested under Section 30 of the Offences the State Act and the fourth was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Two were taken to Mayfield Garda Station while the remaining two suspects were taken for questioning to Togher.

The arrests are the latest in a series of operations against the dissident republicans, in particular the 'Real IRA', in Munster and follows the arrest and questioning of five men in Cork city and two in Limerick last December.

Earlier this week, detectives recovered four weapons when they uncovered a small arms dump near Kilworth in North Cork. However, today's arrests are not understood to be linked to the discovery of that cache.
