Four men appeared before a special sitting of Carlow Districc Court last night in connection with a seizure of cannabis worth an estimated €650,000.
Members of the Garda National Drug Unit assisted by Carlow detective and drug units stopped and searched a number of vehicles in a yard on the outskirts of Carlow Town at about 7.30pm on Friday night.
Cannabis herb with an estimated value of up to €650,000, pending analysis, was seized in the searches, a Garda spokesman said.
Four men, two in their 30s, one in his 50s, and one in his 20s, were arrested at the scene. They were detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice ( Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Carlow and Thomastown Garda stations.
Two vans and two cars, as well as an amount of cash, were also seized, the Garda spokesman added.
