Rowing:Four Irish boats are to compete in the second leg of the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne Switzerland next week (May 30th — June 1st).
The event will be the last chance for the Irish team to test the field and finalise crew selection ahead of the last remaining Olympic qualification regatta in Poznan, Poland June 15th-18th.
The competing crews include: Alan Martin (NUIG), Cormac Folan (NUIG), Sean O'Neill (St. Michael's) and James Wall (NUIG) in the M4 -Heavyweight Men's Four; Sean Casey (Muckross) and Jonno Devlin in the M2- Heavyweight Men's Pair; Paul Griffin (Muckross), Richard Archibald (Lady Victoria BC), Gearoid Towey (Neptune) and Eugene Coakley (Skibbereen) in the LM4 - Lightweight Men's Four; Cathal Moynihan (Neptune) and Richard Coakley (Skibbereen) in the LM2 - Lightweight Men's Double Sculls.
With the heavyweight men's four already qualified for the Beijing Olympics the other crews will be looking to build on recent strong performances to clinch the remaining qualification places.
The 2008 Olympic regatta will be held at Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park on the side of the Chaobi river from August 9th - 17th.
