Four people were killed and 17 injured when a fire broke out in the boiler room of the SS Norwayat the Port of Miami this morning, the US Coast Guard said.

The casualties were all crew members, though passengers were on board the vessel at the time, said Coast Guard spokeswoman Ms Anastasia Brown.

Local firefighters put out the fire which broke out at 6.50 a.m. (11.50 Irish time) in the boiler room of the vessel, said Ms Brown. She said the Coast Guard was conducting an investigation.

Officials from Norwegian Cruise Lines, which owns the vessel, declined to comment on the incident.
