A 39-year-old man died when the car he was driving veered off the road and hit a tree at Grandardkill, Co Longford. The crash happened between 3am and 6am yesterday morning.

The man was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Mullingar General Hospital. The road was closed for a forensic collision examination.

In Co Wexford, a 76-year-old man died when his car left the road and crashed into two parked cars at Rosslare Harbour at 11.15am on Saturday. He was the sole occupant of the car and no one else was injured.

He was removed to Wexford Hospital where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Wexford Garda station on 053-916 5200.

Also in Co Wexford, a 69-year- old man was killed when the car he was driving veered off the road and entered a ditch at Coolroe, Ballycullane, between 5.30pm on Saturday and 9.30am yesterday.

His body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital. He was the sole occupant of the car. The road was closed briefly for a forensic collision examination.

Witnesses are asked to contact New Ross Garda station on 051- 426030.

In Fermoy, an 83-year-old man was killed when the car in which he was travelling crashed into a wall at Kilcronat, Ballynoe, at 4.35pm on Saturday.

The driver of the car, a woman in her mid-60s, was taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
