Four pipe bombs have been found in a derelict house in Co Louth.

Four pipe bombs have been found in a derelict house in Co Louth.

Homes and a restaurant had to be evacuated as an army bomb disposal team dealt with the devices at an address in Haggardstown, near Dundalk.

No arrests have been made.

The Defence Forces said its members were called to the scene by gardaí, who had cordoned off the area and evacuated local residents.

“The team arrived on scene at 3.20pm and examined the devices which were located inside a derelict house in a residential area,” said a spokeswoman.

“The viable devices were made safe in situ without the need for a controlled explosion and will be removed to a secure military location for further examination.

“The remains of the devices will then be handed over to the gardai to assist with their investigations.”

She said the scene was declared safe at 6.15pm.
