Fourteen people remain in custody this evening in connection with a fatal shooting in Sligo.
The six women and eight men were arrested this morning and a number of houses searched.
The fourteen are being held in the Sligo area as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Hughie McGinley in the town centre in April, a garda spokesperson said.
They are being detained at several garda stations in the north west under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
They can be held for up to 72 hours.
Mr McGinley (26) was shot dead by a motorcycle pillion passenger as he sat in his van on Grattan Street, Sligo, on April 28th.
Gardai believe a long-running local family feud sparked the attack on the father of one.
Gardai confirmed today's operation represented the first arrests in the investigation.
Mr McGinley, who lived on the Connaughton Street halting site in the centre of Sligo, had been shopping with his partner and four-month-old son on Grattan Street when he was shot at around 4pm on April 28th.
The gunman fired one shot and hit Mr McGinley in the head. He died in Sligo General Hospital later that day.
Up to 150 garda officers patrolled the May 2nd funeral at Ballytivnan, including armed members of the Emergency Response Unit.
Gardai also searched St Joseph's Church before mourners arrived.
A reconstruction of the crime was featured on RTE's Crimecall on May 24th.
Meanwhile, two men in their 20s were arrested in Clontarf on Dublin's northside last night after a firearm was found in a van.
Both men are currently being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Clontarf Garda Station.
