Gardaí investigating the death of model Katy French have arrested another man, aged 19, for questioning

Gardaí investigating the death of model Katy French have arrested another man, aged 19, for questioning. This has brought to four the number of people detained by the investigating team since Wednesday morning. Conor Lally, Crime Correspondent, reports.

Three other people, two men and a woman who were arrested on Wednesday morning, were released without charge last night. The man arrested yesterday was detained at an address in Ashbourne, Co Meath. He was taken to Kells Garda station and was questioned under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

All four of those arrested were questioned about the circumstances around the supply of drugs Ms French took in the hours before she collapsed last December. She later died in hospital.

On Wednesday, a man in his late 30s and a woman in her late 20s were arrested at 9.30am at an address in Co Meath. A 23-year-old man from Ashbourne, Co Meath, was arrested a short time later.

All three were detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. The provision allows the detention of a suspect for 24 hours without charge.

However, after being questioned throughout Wednesday at Garda stations in Trim, Kells and Navan, all three had their questioning suspended at midnight on Wednesday, resuming at 8am yesterday. The suspension pushed back their release by eight hours to yesterday evening. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Ms French fell ill at a gathering at a house in Co Meath on the morning of Sunday, December 2nd. She was taken to hospital in Navan, but never regained consciousness.

Gardaí believe they know the identity of at least two men who sourced the drugs taken by Ms French before she collapsed. A postmortem and subsequent toxicology tests revealed she died after taking cocaine.
