A fourth outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease has been confirmed in the Netherlands, a Dutch agriculture ministry spokesman said today.

The latest case was in Nijbroek in the eastern province of Gelderland. It is the same area where the three other outbreaks have also been confirmed.

Two other sites are also under investigation for suspected outbreaks.

The outbreak comes a day after European Union officials cleared the Netherlands for a limited vaccination program against the highly contagious disease.
