Police are looking for more men in connection with an attack by a loyalist "lynch mob" which resulted in three Catholic families fleeing their homes in fear of their lives.

Mr Leonard McCullough, (31) from Maple Gardens, Carrickfergus, yesterday became the fourth person to be charged arising out of the sectarian attacks in the Co Antrim town on July 24th.

Mr McCullough appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court on charges of causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Christopher Kearney (23) and intimidating him and his sister, Ms Lisa Magill, out of their homes at Windmill Avenue and Model Avenue.

He was also accused of causing criminal damage at the home of Mr Aaron Fay in Thomas Street, entering it with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and destroying a mobile phone belonging to Lisa Magill.

A detective said that when charged Mr McCullough replied "not me". He was remanded in custody to appear along with three co-accused who were granted bail last week when a High Court judge heard that Mr Kearney was viciously attacked after a "lynch mob" of about 20 men forced their way into the house in Thomas Street.

The court also heard that sectarian threats were made to Ms Magill that if she did not leave her home she would be "burned out of Carrick".
