Robbie Fowler's first two goals for Leeds United following his move from Liverpool gave his new team a 3-2 win over Everton and moved them up to third place in the English premier league today.
Fowler, playing in his fourth match since his Stg11.0 million pounds ($16 million) transfer from Anfield last month, struck after 26 and 70 minutes, while Australian striker Mark Viduka opened the scoring with a 19th minute header.
Everton replied with what appeared to be an 84th minute consolation goal from American striker Joe-Max Moore, although they then put Leeds under real pressure in the closing moments when David Weir headed a second in the 90th minute.
The victory moves Leeds on to 32 points, one point behind Newcastle and Liverpool and two ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal.
The win was the perfect tonic for the club who have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons for most of the last week following the end of the court case involving their players Jonathan Woodgate and Lee Bowyer, and the subsequent development on Tuesday when Bowyer was transfer-listed by the club.
Everton's last victory over Leeds in a league match at Elland Road came on September 1, 1951 when they beat them 2-1 in the old Second Division.
