France is strongly advising its citizens to leave Iraq and warning people not to travel there, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said today following a spate of kidnappings in the country.
"I draw your attention to the fact that, since the end of last week, we are strongly advising all French in Iraq to leave and all those who want to go there, to postpone their trip," the spokesman told a news briefing.
He said the situation in Iraq was "worrying" and said about 100 French people were in Iraq at the moment. France opposed the war in Iraq and has no troops there serving with US-led forces.
