French President Jacques Chirac rejected any unilateral moves to change borders in the Middle East today after US President George W. Bush backed Israeli plans to keep parts of the West Bank.
"I have reservations about the unilateral, bilateral questioning of international law," he said during a visit to Algeria. He said such moves would set an unfortunate and dangerous precedent.
President Chirac added there should be no bargaining with "terrorists" after a purported offer by Osama bin Laden of a truce to Europeans if they pulled troops out of Muslim nations.
"There can be no possible bargaining with terrorists," Mr Chirac during a visit to Algeria.
He also ruled out French military involvement in Iraq. France opposed the US-led invasion of Iraq, but has some troops in Afghanistan.
