France's GDP rises 01% in first quarter

France's gross domestic product (GDP) rose just 0

France's gross domestic product (GDP) rose just 0.1 per cent during the first quarter of the year, although GDP growth during the final quarter of 2009 was revised upwards.

The Insee national statistics office revised the final GDP growth figures for the fourth quarter to 0.6 per cent from an earlier 0.5 per cent. Insee had previously reported preliminary quarterly Q1 GDP growth of 0.1 per cent in May.

Insee said the upwards revision of the fourth quarter GDP figures was partly due to a higher-than-previously forecast rise in industrial production.

Exports rose 4.1 per cent during the first quarter, helped by the weak euro currency.
