Fans will receive free entry into the rescheduled Armagh and Dublin National Football League fixture, the GAA announced this afternoon.

Yesterday's match in Crossmaglen was postponed at the 11th hour after match referee Derek Fahy deemed the pitch to be unplayable. The game has been provisionally rearranged for Wednesday, April 9th.

With over 1,500 supporters already in the ground having paid cash at the stiles, the Armagh county board felt it would not be possible to organise refunds. Instead, "it was considered that the only option was to admit all supporters into the ground free at the rescheduled fixture."

In a statement released earlier today, the GAA expressed sympathy with the Dublin and Armagh supporters but backed the decision to Fahy to postpone the fixture on health and safety grounds.

"The Association fully understands the desire and aspiration of everybody associated with the teams to play the game but fully supports the referee in his decision as the health and safety of the players has to be paramount and take precedence over other exigencies irrespective of how pressing these may be," the statement said.

"The GAA has said that it understands and fully accepts the annoyance and inconvenience experienced by supporters but states that in the circumstances there is no more that it could meaningfully do," it continued.

A final decision on the fixture will be taken at a meeting of the CCCC tomorrow night.
