The Naval Service patrol ship, LE Ciara, was dispatched to investigate an incident yesterday morning, when the nets of an Irish and a French vessel became entangled 12 miles south-east of Fastnet rock.

The patrol ship took statements from both vessels, the Karen Rose from Baltimore and the Sanaga from France. Damage was limited to fishing gear, according to the Irish Marine Emergency Service. The Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, Dr Woods, has urged Irish skippers to report all such incidents to the IMES, following clashes off the south-west coast in recent years.
