French opposition to the European Union constitution is over 60 per cent for the first time before a referendum on the treaty next month, according to an opinion poll today.
The MarketTools survey for Metronewspaper showed 62.3 per cent of respondents who have decided how to vote oppose the treaty.
The poll of 1,000 registered voters was conducted on the Internet on Wednesday.
MarketTools did not indicate what proportion of voters had not decided how to vote in the referendum on May 29th.

Most recent polls have put opposition to the charter in a range around 53 to 56 per cent of people who have decided how to vote.
About one-third of voters are undecided, according to most polls.
