Germany's Heinz-Harald Frentzen was tonight made to wait before being told whether he could compete in Sunday's European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.
The Jordan driver underwent a 40-minute examination with Formula One's medical chief Sid Watkins at the German track today after missing the race in Canada 12 days ago suffering from concussion.
But Frentzen will not know if he can line up in front of his home fans for several hours.
Frentzen pulled out of the grand prix in Montreal after a crash during opening day practice having also been concussed following an accident in Monaco two weeks before.
The 34-year-old missed last week's British Grand Prix test at Silverstone to give himself time to recover and undergo tests.
Frentzen will again be replaced by Ricardo Zonta if he is ruled out, but Jordan's reserve driver was in the wars himself at the Nurburgring today.
Zonta briefly dislocated his shoulder when shaking hands with his old engineer, but his physiotherapist immediately put it back into place.
