The funeral took place in Cork yesterday of Mr Fergus O'Callaghan (64), former editor of the Cork Examiner, who died unexpectedly earlier in the week.
Mr O'Callaghan joined the newspaper in 1956 and worked for some years as chief sub-editor before being appointed editor in 1976. He announced his retirement in 1994.
Mr Anthony Dinan, chief executive of the Examiner Group, joined the many tributes paid to Mr O'Callaghan, describing him as a pivotal part of its success in recent years.
The chief mourners were Mr O'Callaghan's wife, Ita, daughter, Mary, and sons Jim, Desmond, Fergus and Colin.
