The funeral of Royal Irish Regiment soldier Christopher McDonald, who died in an ambush in Iraq, took place yesterday.
Col Sergeant McDonald, (39) from Bangor, Co Down was on leave, working as a security guard when his vehicle was attacked in the northern city of Mosul on March 28th.
Mr McDonald had been planning to leave the army in June and had reportedly been protecting workers for General Electric when he died.
He was a member of the 1st Battalion of the RIR and was temporarily attached to the Headquarters of the Northern Ireland Battalion based at Thiepval Barracks in Lisburn. He was buried at Clandeboye Cemetery in Bangor after a funeral service at St Gall's Church, Crawfordsburn.
