The funeral will take place today of a 26-year-old man who died on his birthday last Friday after his car plunged into a deep water quay in Cobh, Co Cork.
He has been named as Patrick O'Mahony from Springfield Road, Cobh.
His younger brother Eddie (23) was also in the car at the time of the crash.
He was rescued by the emergency services and taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment for shock.
The accident happened shortly after 1.30pm on Friday when the brothers' hatchback car went in to the water near Cobh's heritage centre. Patrick O'Mahony's body was recovered from the river at 3pm.
A spokesman for Cobh Garda station yesterday said the cause of the crash was still unclear.
Gardaí plan to examine local CCTV footage in an effort to find out what happened on Friday afternoon.
Witnesses are being asked to come forward and a full examination of the hatchback car is being carried out.
A Garda spokesman described the crash as "deeply shocking", saying that locals felt the young man's loss.
The results of the investigation will be compiled for an inquest at a coroner's court.
Patrick O'Mahony will be laid to rest following midday requiem Mass today at St Colman's Cathedral. Burial will follow in St Colman's cemetery.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old who was in a critical condition on Friday after an accident at a grain store outside Midleton, in east Cork, is now in a stable condition in Cork University Hospital.
It is understood the youth's clothing became entangled in a machine dragging his lower body in.
The accident happened at Ballincurra near Midleton at 2pm.
