The funeral will take place tomorrow of 16-year-old Kim Archibold who died in a toboggan accident in Swords, Co Dublin at the weekend.
Ms Archibold, from Brookdale Green in Swords, broke her neck when a makeshift toboggan in which she was travelling crashed at River Valley Park just after 10 p.m. on Saturday.
Three other teenagers - two girls and a boy - who were with her on the toboggan escaped serious injury.
They had been sliding down a steep incline in the park when they hit a bush and were thrown on to the snow, which had been hardened by the repeated use of toboggans.
Ms Archibold was rushed to Beaumont Hospital where she was pronounced dead. A fifth-year pupil at St Mary's College, Killester, she was well-known in the area and worked part-time at the local C&T supermarket. She is survived by her parents and a 13-year-old sister.
River Valley parish priest Father Maurice O'Shea, who will officiate at tomorrow's funeral, said he had been speaking to Ms Archibold at the supermarket just three hours before the accident.
"She was a bubbly little one. She was always a bit of fun putting things through the checkout. She always had a word and a smile," he said.
"Her death affects all of us. It's such a shock, particularly the manner of her death. I'm sure we could all think of more dangerous things we've done."
Ms Archibold had gone to the park after work with a group of friends and had been using a plastic car roof-rack to propel herself down the slopes.
Some 50 other young people were playing in the area at the time.
The accident occurred within hours of a thaw as the cold snap came to an end. Ms Archibold's body will be removed from her home to St Finian's Church, River Valley, arriving at 9.50 a.m. After 10 a.m. funeral Mass it will be taken for burial to Balbriggan Cemetery.
