BRITAIN: Final farewells have been said at the funerals of 10-year-old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman whose murder last month shocked Britain, police said yesterday.
A service for Jessica, who was cremated, was held on Monday and her best friend Holly was buried yesterday.
Police confirmed that the funerals had taken place but said the families had requested that no information should be revealed about them.
"Both funerals were strictly private affairs," a police spokeswoman in Cambridgeshire, central England, said.
Holly and Jessica triggered one of the biggest manhunts in British criminal history when they disappeared on August 4th while walking in their hometown of Soham, near Cambridge, wearing Manchester United jerseys. Their bodies were found on August 17th along a dirt track not far from Soham, in what a coroner later called "a partly skeletonised state". A school caretaker has been arrested for their murders.
