The funerals of two men killed when a wall collapsed in a DIY shop in Longford on Tuesday will take place tomorrow.
Seán Mulleady (47) of Drumlish, Co Longford, and Paddy Gaffney (65) of Cloonshannagh, near Tarmonbarry, Co Roscommon, died in the incident. They were shopping at the Connacht Gold DIY and Garden Centre on the Athlone Road in Longford when an internal 40ft-high wall collapsed.
Another four men were injured.Two have been released from hospital and are understood to have sustained minor injuries.
One man, an employee of Connacht Gold, remained in a serious condition at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore last night. It is understood the man, in his late 20s or early 30s, underwent surgery.
The fourth man, in his 60s, believed to be a visiting sales representative, also remained in hospital in Tullamore. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Connacht Gold opened the shop in Longford in April 2012. It leases the building, which was refurbished prior to the opening.
It has offered professional counselling to staff and customers caught up in the accident.
The shop has pledged to co-operate fully with the ongoing investigation.
Church details
Mr Gaffney will be removed from his home in Cloonshannagh to Whitehall Church in Tarmonbarry at 7.30pm today. He will be buried in Kilbarry Cemetery following a funeral Mass at noon tomorrow.
Mr Mulleady’s remains will be removed from his home to St Mary’s Church, Drumlish, at 7pm. He will be buried following a funeral Mass at noon tomorrow.
