Fruit distributor Fyffes has confidently predicted it will achieve record full year profits and is "very confident" of its case ahead of a major legal battle.

In a trading update issued today, Fyffes said performance in the first half of the year was "very satisfactory" and the group has continued to deliver strong results in the second half to date.

Favourable market conditions in European markets and the first time contribution from recent acquisitions have driven this improvement, Fyffes said.

For the first half of the year, Fyffes reported that it had earned additional exceptional profits from its property activities amounting to €14.3 million.

During the second half, the Group has incurred exceptional costs in relation to its negotiations with Bocchi and its ongoing legal action against DCC and others.

The hearing of these proceedings in the High Court in Dublin starts tomorrow.

Fyffes said its board and its advisors remain "very confident" of the strength of its case.
